Three sections of notes, a page about the site and a way to write to me.

Planning and Recovery

Most of the trouble I've seen around a treatment didn't start in the chair. It started a month earlier, when the date got picked for convenience, or the morning of, when somebody forgot to mention the fish oil.

So this section runs on a calendar rather than a menu. It's for the stretch of time that belongs to you: the weeks leading up to an appointment and the days after it.

A woman in a cream robe rests on a terrace lounger with a straw hat on her lap and a cold pack on the table.

Counting backwards from the appointment

A month out. Look at what the fortnight after the date asks of you. A shift on your feet, a family event, a week of classes outdoors. Recovery has to fit the week you really have, so this is when you choose the treatment and the date together. Plenty of people up here plan for the short trip down the hill, and treatment and recovery planning in Hoboken is one place to lay the treatment, the date and the recovery out side by side before anything goes in the diary.

A week or two out. Open the cabinet. Everything you take, including the vitamins and the tea your aunt swears by, goes on the list. Don't stop anything a doctor prescribed; tell the provider instead.

The day of. Bring the list, or a photo of it. Plan the ride home so you're not waiting in full sun with fresh work on your face.

The days after. Keep the after-hours number somewhere you can find it at night. Book the follow-up before you leave the desk.

The two pages here

  • Planning Treatments Around Work Schedules is for readers who can't just take a few days off. It sorts the common treatments by what they stop you doing and by how visible they are, which are separate costs depending on your job.
  • Medications That Increase Bruising is about answering the medication question properly, including the supplements and shop-bought painkillers nobody thinks to mention.

Checking a place is real

The date is yours to choose. The practice mostly is too, and some basic checking belongs in the planning. The Official Website of City of Union City, NJ - Home will show whether a local business is registered. The member directories at the North Jersey Chamber of Commerce – How to Grow Your Business – Networking Events – North Jersey and the Home - Hudson County Chamber of Commerce show which ones have been around a while. None of that says anything about clinical skill, and I'd never pick a provider on a listing alone.

Bring your calendar and your medication photo to the consultation, and expect the clinician to use both.
